Penny and I live right down the road from Bethabara Park and spend a lot of time there.  It is amazing to us to see how little they had to work with and how successful they were.  It was not a very friendly place when they first arrived with the Indians and dangerous wildlife but they managed to thrive in spite of this.  We should all take a look at the past and be inspired by what has been and can still be accomplished.

I thought you would like this brochure I picked up on one of our visits to the park so I scanned it and made a PDF.  The brochure shows the layout of the 1761 medicinal garden, kind of like their version of  our modern day CVS pharmacy!  It is the earliest known, well-documented colonial medical garden in the United States. Study the plans and maybe you can implement some of their ideas into your garden.
